What We Believe
The Foundation for Musicians and Songwriters (FMS) exists because every kid deserves the chance to make music. Not just listen to it — but create it, perform it, and feel the confidence that comes from mastering something that matters.
We are a 501(c)(3) public charity that trains young people to become musicians. We put instruments in their hands, mentors by their side, and studios at their fingertips. Our programs span school-based music education, instrument access, professional studio training, and one-on-one mentorship with working musicians.
Music changes kids. It teaches discipline, sparks creativity, builds confidence, and gives young people a powerful way to express who they are. We believe access to music education should never depend on a family's income, zip code, or school budget. So we build programs that meet kids where they are and give them what they need to grow.
Our Story
FMS was born from a simple idea: if you give a kid access to music, you change their trajectory. Founded by musicians and educators who saw too many talented young people slip through the cracks, FMS set out to close the gap between aspiration and opportunity.
What started as small, community-based workshops has grown into a multi-program organization that serves hundreds of young people. We partner with schools, community centers, and professional studios to deliver programs that are hands-on, real-world, and built around what kids actually want to learn.
Along the way, we earned our 501(c)(3) status as a public charity (EIN: 81-2383052), because the work we do matters — and we want every dollar of support to go as far as possible for the kids who need it.
